On the 4th July this year, the RPWS will be holding a special FFA match to celebrate (among other things) Independence Day (For a full list of occasions, see the end of this post). And what better way to celebrate it than with fireworks? And what better to use as fireworks than rockets, Spartan lasers, missiles, and other heavy weaponry?
This July 4th at 8pm EST, a special 1-hour free-for-all match will be held on a heavily forged Valhalla, filled with heavy vehicles, lasers, rockets and other big beefy items. To make things more fun, each player spawns with a rocket launcher and another random weapon, and spawns in a sealed location filled with goodies on a quick respawn timer, before venturing out into the open to celebrate with mindless carnage!
And to aid in the celebrations - the winner will win a 12-month XBL subscription card (to be purchased after the match, since I’m not entirely sure whether European codes will work on US accounts and vice versa) - so there’s even more reason to celebrate! More prizes will be made available if there is enough demand and if there is room on my credit card!
If you wish to take part, simple reply to this post with your Gamertag. First 15 to reply (obviously I’m in spot 16) get first invites on the night, and then the party gets opened for anyone else to join. The winner is the player with the most points at the end of the hour.
Gameweek 5, taking place the weekend of 5th-6th July on Foundry will still go ahead as planned!
Gametype and map forging updates will be posted between now and Independence Day. Have fun, and hopefully this will be a great 4th July! More »
Guardian - Halo 3 launched featuring Guardian as, what some people dubbed “the new Lockout”, due to it’s Lockout-esque traits, like the gravity lift, elbow, and big open centre area. This weekend, the RPWS will make it’s visit to Guardian as part of the season.
This weekend’s gametypes will be:
- Slayer Duals: SMG start, Duals on map, 50 points
- Shotty Snipers KotH: Default Crazy King, Sniper/Shotgun start
- Superball (See Custom Gametypes for ruleset)
Superball’s ball carrier is faster and lighter and has faster shield recharging, but no overshields so watch out! 2 points per second for holding the ball, and a 2 point bonus for a ball kill, but killing the carrier nets you a 10 point bonus! Remeber the carrier’s fast, but not invincible!
The top 5 going into Guardian:
- CBTS Zeak - 542
- TheChrisD - 427
- Piper Doig - 223
- II S1ckN4sty II - 200
- birdflu93 - 186
Can anybody else join the battle at the head of the championship? With Zeak and myself pulling away, will it be a two-horse race until the end or will there be an upset towards the end of the season?
…because I’m no good at Photoshop
If you’re good at Photoshop and designing images/banners, I’m calling you out! Here at the RPWS, we’re looking for someone to modify these images into something that’s more “us”.
First off is the header background. Right now it’s just plain with the site title and description. What we’d like is an in-game screen (Rumble Pit-style please!) modified into the background, and the Rumble Pit World Series title overlaid on it, and standing out slightly.
And, if it’s not too much trouble, several different banners each with a different screenshot would be lovely, so that we can put them on a random rotation, so that on each refresh a different image should appear.
The background image is here - although for it to fit in this post, it’s been reduced. Please right-click and “View Image” before downloading it to make sure you get the size right!

Plus, the flag. This isn’t paramount, but it might be interesting to have something different on the flag rather than the UNSC logo. This isn’t needed, but it would be nice to have.
Also, please note to keep the transparency! Otherwise it’ll overlap some of the other images and content on the site, and we wouldn’t want that now, would we

Any help is greatly appreciated. We’ll be sure to justly reward anyone who helps out (whether it be through a thank-you link in the sidebar, or some form of monetary reward), so please give us a hand!
Gameweek 2 has just been finished, as of this post’s first writing! With an eventual start after some “very light rain”, due to a slow trickle of players coming online, The Pit saw a good few games this gameweek!
Full report in the main post. More »
Unfortunately, early reports (and TV schedules) show that there is a 70% chance of rain over The Pit tonight. Several factors are at cause for this possible downpour, which could invoke a rain delay, pushing the second gameweek back:
- Co-ordinator Pennywise being unconfirmed as to availability for 7pm EST.
- Newly promoted co-ordinator AdjustantReflex not knowing about his new position.
- Administrator TheChrisD being unsure whether the gaming room will be free at midnight BST (that’s 7pm EST), due to several conflicting programs and conflicting family members (i.e. the mother taking the TV for another Sex and the City marathon from 9pm to 1.10am BST)
In the event of rain hitting at 7pm, the gameweek will be pushed back to 9pm EST, and the situation again assessed. If rain is still falling, the gameweek will be postponed until Monday night at 7pm EST.
Yes, I tried to make this a little humourous, and a little bit like the real-life rain delays you get in oval racing. We’ll see what the story is later on tonight.
PS: There have been more friend requests sent out from the RPWS Members Gamertag, please accept for easy access to the game lobbies! Plus, site registration has been open for a while now. Make sure to register if you want to have a say on any of the topics on either the site or the forums.
